Ruben "Coach" Cardenas Obituary (1929 - 2021)

Ruben "Coach Cardenas" Cardenas Passed on to be with our lord on June 4, 2021 at the age of 91. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War and after he served his country, he began to serve the communities he lived in as a teacher. For 38 years, he taught as a physical education coach in Brownsville, Weslaco, and Mission and was known by many generations of children and families affectionately as “Coach Cardenas”. He served others but always took care of his family as he was always a good husband, wonderful dad, as well as a great grandfather and great grandfather. He will be missed greatly and will be in our hearts forever. He is preceded in death by his wife Pauline Cardenas and grandchildren Joseph McFarland and Nicolas McFarland. He is survived by his children Anita McFarland (Larry McFarland), Ruben Cardenas, Jr (Irma Cardenas) and Marinela Cardenas, 9 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 10th at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in McAllen, Tx from 1pm-9pm with a rosary at 7pm. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, June 11th at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic Church at 9am followed by burial at the Rio Grande Valley Veterans Cemetery at 10am.
