Jeanne Marie Murphy

July 10, 1938 - April 20, 2022

Jeanne Murphy,83, born July 10, 1938 to the late Sarah and James McLaughlin in New York, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2022. Jeanne Murphy was the matriarch of the Murphy family, a daughter of Irish immigrants who was raised, and had children in New York to retire to Mission, Texas with her husband, Frank Murphy, who she lived with until he passed in 1988. Jeanne Murphy never remarried and focused the rest of her life on her children, not only her biological children because to Jeanne Murphy any small child that was left unattended with her for more than a few minutes became one of hers. She raised a circus that included her children, her grandchildren, her students, tenants children, friends of her children, and children who wandered in off the street. Jeanne was almost never referred to by her name and was known as either Mom or Nanny to all who knew her. Jeanne Murphy was a teacher for most of her professional career; she taught for over 40 years in New York, Dallas, Mission, and La Joya. She also spent 5 years of her youth running Jean’s Greens, a New York based greenhouse. She retired after a storied career in 2018. She was a strong, stoic woman known for her dry humor, compassionate heart, and fearless approach to life. She is preceded in death by her husband Frank Murphy; four sons John Murphy, Edward Murphy, Christopher Murphy, and Kevin Murphy; a granddaughter Megan Marie Johnson; a sister Marie Hunter; a nephew Matthew Hunter and 2 uncle Edward Murphy and John Murphy. She is mournfully survived by her children James Murphy and Mary (Richard) Johnson; her grandchildren Michael Murphy, Sky Renee Erickson, Jeanne Marie Murphy, Kristina Marie Murphy, Mary Murphy, Jimmy Murphy, Cody Johnson, Sarah Johnson, Kaitilyn Johnson, Amber Johnson, April Walker, Ricky Johnson, Autumn Johnson, Kalye Henry; her great grandchildren Jason Murphy, Annabelle Marie Murphy, Adaline Murphy, Ryan Johnson, Harmony Johnson, Zion Erickson, Levi Erickson, Noah Erickson and Ezra Erickson; her nephew Ricky Vaccaro; her nieces Lori Vaccaro and Mari Jo Hunter; her great nieces and nephews Alicia Sierras, Vincent Vaccaro and Luke Call; an adoptive daughter Ruby Markowsky; the Guzman family Carlos Guzman, Martha Guzman, Thamara Guzman, Karla Martinez, Carlos Guzman, Gracia Guzman; lifelong family friends Joe Mancias, Lalo Acevedo, Elvira Acevedo, Eddy Markowsky, Jennifer and Vanessa Morales, Shelly Lopez, Belinda Metcalf, Cecilia Gonzalez. Uncountable and unlistable numerous friends, students, and lives that she touched. Visitation will held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2022 in the Ric Brown Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mission with a celebration of life to begin at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2022 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church with all services to conclude at the church. Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Michael Murphy, James Murphy, Jason Murphy, Cody Johnson, Ricky Vaccaro, Oscar Cancino Jr.
