October 25, 1931 - March 2, 2022
Emma Ybarra Valdez was born on October 25, 1931 to Josefa Flores and Alberto Ybarra. She passed peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 2nd. On September 5th, 1958 she married the love of her life, Victor Valdez. Together they had 5 children, Graciela (Joe) Quintanilla, Elizabeth (Robert) Longoria, Esmeralda (Benito) Garcia, Martin (Misty) Valdez, and Nati (Carrie) Valdez. She had 13 grandkids in all, Sarah, Victoria, JoJo, Benjamin, Tomas, Joaquin, Emmy, Noah, Elise, Ethan, Luke, Lauren, and Lily and 2 great grandchildren, Quinn and Jozy. Our mom was an amazing mom, she loved us unconditionally, taught us right from wrong, how to respect our elders, and how to love with our whole heart and for that we are all eternally grateful. Emma was the owner and operator at Mission Cleaners for many years. She met and made many friends at that cleaners. She loved playing Bingo and lottery scratch offs and was pretty lucky. In her senior years, she was a regular at Whataburger and attended early morning mass at her beloved parish of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. She read and sang in mass and loved being there on a daily basis. After mass she would go to Whataburger and drink coffee and have breakfast of her choice because they would fix her whatever she wanted. She would spend hours there visiting with her friends. It was surely her favorite pastime. Anyone who ever had the privilege of eating her homemade food knows it was delicious. Her flour tortillas with butter were the all-time favorite. Her grandkids loved her pan de campo fresh out of the oven with butter. Time spent in her kitchen cooking was the best time. For her 90th birthday she witnessed for the last time her daughters in the kitchen cooking enchiladas, rice and beans as we gathered for a birthday celebration in her honor. She was surrounded by family and enjoyed every minute. Survivors include her siblings Criselda Cavazos, Alicia DeLeon, Argelio (Kristie) Ybarra, and Alberto (Linda) Ybarra. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 50 years Victor, her brother David, her sister Anita, her grandson Noah, and her mother, Josefa. Visitation will be held on Friday March 11th from 4pm-9pm with a rosary being recited at 7pm at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mission. Funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Mission on Saturday, March 12th at 9am with burial to follow at the Valdez Family Cemetery in Puerto Rico, TX. Pallbearers will be JoJo Quintanilla, Ethan Valdez, Joaquin Valdez, Luke Valdez, Victor Gallardo and Beto Guerrero. Honorary pallbearers will be Benjamin Garcia, Tomas Garcia and David Ybarra. A special thanks to Vero and Elida, for the amazing care and love they provided during her days at home. She will be dearly missed by those who loved her but know that she is in God's hands and we all look forward to our reunion with her. Rest in eternal peace...
